    Method ⏲️

Golden hand pies packed with savoury mince gravy and gooey cheese.

    Step 1: Cook Your Filling

Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Cook 1 finely diced brown onion and 1 finely diced carrot for 5 minutes, then add 2 minced garlic cloves and stir for 30 seconds.

    Step 2: Thicken It Up

Add 500 g mince beef and cook until browned. Stir in 1 tbsp tomato paste, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 tbsp soy sauce and 2 tbsp plain flour. Pour in 1½ cups beef stock, season with salt and pepper, then simmer for 10-15 minutes until thick.

    Step 3: Fill Your Pies

Let your filling cool completely. Preheat your oven to 200°C and line a tray. Cut 8 circles from 2 puff pastry sheets. Spoon filling onto 4 circles, top each with ¼ cup mozzarella, then brush edges with beaten egg.

    Step 4: Seal & Bake

Top with your remaining pastry circles and press the edges with a fork to seal. Cut a small slit in each lid, brush with the rest of 1 beaten egg and bake for 20-25 minutes until your pies are puffed and deeply golden. Give them 5 minutes to settle, then tuck in while the cheese is still doing its stretchy thing.
