- Pepperoni, roughly chopped½ cup
- Mozzarella, shredded1 cup
- Egg1
- Smoked paprika½ tsp
- Plain flourTo dust
- Basil8 small leaves
- Kitchen twine, cut into 8 x 60 cm pieces8 pieces
Method ⏲️
Pizza dough stuffed with pepperoni and mozzarella, shaped into little pumpkins and baked until golden.
Step 1: Prep & preheat
Preheat your oven to 200°C and line a baking tray with baking paper. Lightly dust a clean work surface with plain flour and divide your 500 g pizza dough into 8 equal portions. Flatten each piece into a rough circle about 12 cm wide.
Step 2: Load it up
Spoon about 1 tsp of pizza sauce into the centre of each dough circle. Top with a small handful of chopped pepperoni and 1 tbsp of mozzarella. Gather the edges of the dough up over the filling and pinch firmly at the top to seal, then roll gently into a smooth ball, seam-side down.
Step 3: Shape your pumpkins
Lay a piece of kitchen twine flat and place a dough ball in the centre. Wrap the twine around the ball to create 8 equal sections, tying it off at the top with a double knot. Trim any excess. The twine only needs to indent slightly, not cut in. Repeat with all 8 balls and place them on your lined tray.
Step 4: Glaze & bake
Whisk your egg with ½ tsp smoked paprika until combined. Brush the mixture generously over each pumpkin, getting into all the ridges. Bake for 18-20 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
Step 5: Serve & enjoy!
Let your pumpkins cool for 5 minutes, then carefully snip and remove the twine. Press a small basil leaf into the top of each one as a stem. Serve warm with extra pizza sauce on the side and watch them vanish.
